Cabaret Tickets On Sale Now!

Tickets for the Rep Club’s hit musical Cabaret are now on sale from the Goldfields Arts Centre.

Cabaret will be performed at the Rep Club on 26, 27, 28 August and 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 September 2010. Performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets are $40 for Rep Club Members and Concession and $45 for adults. A light supper will be provided during the interval.

The award winning musical Cabaret is based on the stories “Goodbye to Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood, and is on stage at the Rep Club in August and September. This beautiful, intimate theatre, the show with all its haunting melodies and provocative dancing will be presented in true cabaret club style.

The musical, set in Berlin in the late 1920’s as the Nazi’s begin their rise to power, tells the story of an American author Clifford Bradshaw who visits the notorious Kit Kat Club and meets the English singer Sally Bowles. Their love affair and that of Cliff’s landlord Fraulein Schneider and her Jewish tenant become a metaphor for the increasing violence and political theatre that is being played out on the streets outside.

One Acts a Huge Success!

The Rep Club’s recent season of one act plays, Theatre Triptych, has just concluded a very successful run, with all three plays being very well received by audiences.

John Morgan’s Kids, directed by David Holle and starring Emma Hart, Dylan Della Vedova, Mark Alexander, Michelle Leahy and Jenny Roodt provided actors and audiences alike with an entertaining and energetic performance. Don Liley’s innovative and enormous set design added greatly to the atmosphere of the play.

Last Post written by Gene McConnell, directed by Georgia Foulkes-Taylor, was beautifully performed by experienced actors Marie Molloy and Jennifer Nicholls. The play started out to engross the audience in a heartbreaking situation only to surprise in the second part of the play with a twist that was both amusing and shocking to the unsuspecting. The play was entertaining and surprising to the end.

Derek Drives a Datsun, written by Kate Mulvaney and directed by Stuart Fleming, pushed the boundaries of common theatre decency. It was not to all peoples taste in content, however no one could argue that the performance given by actors Donald Liley and Lauren Chapman-Holle was anything less than outstanding. The play’s content challenged the ideologies of those who believe that death is sacred and not to be made fun of. However, upon close inspection of the content, the play satirical inspection of life’s underworld was revealing and informing to the woes of those less socially fortunate.

In whole it was a hugely successful season of One Act plays. Congratulations to fabulous cast, crew and directors. Thank you to all those that came to support those involved.

Social Club Nights Update - a message from the Quiz Mistress

The fabulous Sarah-Jayne has a message to all participants of the Rep Club's July Social Club Night, Quizzerades.
"Well it seems as infalible as I am, it turns out that Hotton Cafe is indeed next to Debarnales (as a couple of people told me last night). As your host, I am terribly sorry to the teams who were incorrectly penalised - it means the winning team only won by 12 points now. I hope everyone still had a wonderful night."

The Rep Club's August Social Club Night will be an evening of play readings, where writers, potential directors and any interested members (and future members) are encouraged to bring along scripts and give them a read through. All members are welcome to come along, either to join in with the reading, or to enjoy the company at the Rep Club.

Friday, August 20, from 7.30pm. RSVP to goldfieldsrepertoryclub@gmail.com
