The 80th Annual General Meeting of the Goldfields Repertory Club Inc will be held at 7PM, THURSDAY 14 APRIL 2011 At the Brookman Street Theatre, home of the Goldfields Repertory Club Inc. 7 Brookman Street Kalgoorlie All positions will be declared vacant, and full committee elections will be held. We are also seeking enthusiastic people to take on non-executive sub committee roles. All past, current and new members welcome. Membership Renewal is due on this date. The meeting will be followed by social drinks, so members can get to know the new committee.

AUDITIONS - Convicts Opera
THE Goldfields Repertory Club is heading out to sea in celebration of its 80th anniversary, as the Convict’s Opera comes to the stage.
Artistic director Norma Latchford is on the lookout for four women and seven men to play main roles in the show, and plenty more to take on smaller roles, and will be auditioning for the musical play on Sunday, March 13 at the Rep Club from 1pm.
The Convict’s Opera is an adaptation by Stephen Jeffries of John Gay’s Beggar’s Opera of 1728,
bringing in plenty of modern songs, too.
Norma describes the play as “a very new and exciting Australian musical production that recognises the history of theatre and the origins of Australia”.
“The Goldfields Repertory Club is the first amateur theatre club in Australia to gain the rights to perform this seminal work,” she said.
“The story tells of a group of convicts who are sentenced to transportation to Australia and gain
permission from the captain to put on a play, The Beggar’s Opera.
“This play within a play contains common thieves, a respectable forger, whores, an arsonist and
political prisoners. The anti hero Macheath gives us shades of Ned Kelly and the Bushrangers. We identify with them and our own convict history. "
Singing lessons will be given. Expressions of interest from musicians are also requested.
